Engagement rate FAQ
- How do you calculate engagement rate?
- This calculator uses engagement rate by followers: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ (followers × number of posts) × 100. Dividing by post count gives the average engagement per post as a share of your audience.
- What is a good engagement rate?
- It varies by platform and audience size, but a common rule of thumb is that 1–3% is solid, 3–6% is high, and above 6% is excellent. Smaller accounts often see higher rates than large ones, so compare against similar accounts.
- Should I use followers or reach as the denominator?
- This tool uses followers, which is the most widely reported method and the numbers you always have on hand. Engagement rate by reach (engagements ÷ reach) is also valid and usually higher, but requires reach data from each post’s analytics.
- Does the calculator store my numbers?
- No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser as you type — nothing is uploaded or saved.
