Engagement rate FAQ

How do you calculate engagement rate?
This calculator uses engagement rate by followers: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ (followers × number of posts) × 100. Dividing by post count gives the average engagement per post as a share of your audience.
What is a good engagement rate?
It varies by platform and audience size, but a common rule of thumb is that 1–3% is solid, 3–6% is high, and above 6% is excellent. Smaller accounts often see higher rates than large ones, so compare against similar accounts.
Should I use followers or reach as the denominator?
This tool uses followers, which is the most widely reported method and the numbers you always have on hand. Engagement rate by reach (engagements ÷ reach) is also valid and usually higher, but requires reach data from each post’s analytics.
Does the calculator store my numbers?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser as you type — nothing is uploaded or saved.
