Video length limits by platform

The maximum video duration for a standard feed or native video post on every major platform — Reels and Shorts have their own, shorter limits on the Reel and Short length checker.

Maximum video length

X (Twitter)

2:20

X Premium extends this to roughly 4 hours on web/iOS (10 min on Android).

LinkedIn

30 min

LinkedIn’s Videos API documents 3 seconds to 30 minutes.

Instagram

15 min

Only Reels under ~3 minutes are eligible for algorithmic recommendation.

Facebook Pages

4 hours

Facebook Reels are a separate, much shorter format (~3–90 seconds).

TikTok

10 min

In-app recording caps at 10 minutes; uploaded files can run longer for some creators.

YouTube

12 hours

YouTube Shorts are a separate format, capped at 3 minutes since Oct 2024.

Threads

5 min

Pinterest

15 min

Bluesky

3 min

Telegram

5 min

Governed mainly by file size (50MB via the Bot API) more than a fixed duration.

How to use this table

  1. Find your platform and post type. Video limits differ between a standard feed video and a short-form format like Reels, so confirm which one you are actually publishing.
  2. Check the duration against your export. Trim or re-export before you upload if your file runs longer than the platform’s maximum, since most platforms reject the file outright rather than truncating it.
  3. Watch for tier-specific exceptions. A few platforms extend the limit for paid tiers or verified accounts — X Premium and larger YouTube channels are the two most common examples.
  4. Cross-check file size, not just duration. A long video can still fail on file size alone, so check the media spec checker for the matching size ceiling before you upload.
  5. Recheck before scheduling anything time-sensitive. Platforms extend and shrink these limits without much warning, so confirm the current maximum in the platform’s own help center before a launch-critical upload.

Worked examples

A 3-minute clip on a standard X account

A standard X account can upload a video up to 140 seconds (2 minutes 20 seconds); a 3-minute clip has to be trimmed or exported as a shorter cut before it will upload.

A 45-minute recap on YouTube

A 45-minute video comfortably fits YouTube’s up-to-12-hour maximum for a standard upload, while the same file would need to be cut to under 3 minutes to qualify as a Short.

A 6-minute Facebook Reel

Facebook Reels run roughly 3 to 90 seconds, so a 6-minute video has to publish as a normal feed video instead, where the limit runs up to 4 hours.

Video length limits FAQ

What is the maximum video length for X (formerly Twitter)?
A standard X account can upload a video up to 140 seconds (2 minutes 20 seconds). X Premium subscribers can upload much longer videos, up to around 4 hours on the web and iOS apps, though the Android app still caps uploads at 10 minutes regardless of subscription.
What is the maximum video length for Instagram?
A feed or Reels video published through Instagram’s API can run up to 15 minutes. In-app Reels recording is capped lower, and only Reels under about 3 minutes are eligible for algorithmic recommendation to people who do not already follow you.
How long can a YouTube video be?

What is the maximum video length on TikTok?

LinkedIn’s video upload API accepts clips from 3 seconds up to 30 minutes, a limit LinkedIn documents directly against its own Videos API.
What is the maximum video length for a Facebook Page?

Yes — Pinterest video Pins can run up to 15 minutes, and Bluesky video posts are capped at 3 minutes through its dedicated video service.
