Before you connect
- A Telegram channel you administer.
- A bot created through @BotFather, added to that channel as an administrator with the "Post Messages" right specifically enabled.
How to connect Telegram
- 1Message @BotFather on Telegram and send /newbot (or reuse an existing bot) to get a bot token.
- 2Add that bot to your channel’s administrators, and turn on the "Post Messages" permission for it.
- 3In SkedCast, open Connected Accounts, choose Connect, then Telegram, and paste the bot token — or send the account owner an invite link to connect it themselves.
- 4Enter the channel’s @username (or its -100… id for a private channel) — SkedCast checks the bot can actually post there before saving the connection. To post to another channel, connect that channel too.
What can you publish to Telegram once it is connected?
- A caption of up to 4,096 characters, with or without media.
- Images: up to 10 per post, JPG, PNG, up to 10 MB each.
- Video: one per post, MP4, up to 50 MB each, up to 5 minutes long.
- GIFs: one per post, GIF, MP4, up to 50 MB each.
- Documents: one per post, any file type, up to 50 MB each.
- A first comment, published right after the post.
- Scheduling by SkedCast, which holds the post and publishes it at the time you set.
Common connection problems
- The bot can’t post — a "not enough rights" error.
- The bot must be an administrator of the channel with the specific "Post Messages" right turned on. Open the channel’s Administrators list in Telegram and confirm that permission is enabled for the bot.
- A connection that worked for months suddenly stops.
- Regenerating the bot’s token in @BotFather ("Revoke current token") immediately invalidates the old one everywhere it was used, including in SkedCast. Grab the new token from @BotFather and paste it into Connections.
- The bot disappeared from the channel’s member list.
- If the bot was removed as an administrator (or removed from the channel entirely), re-add it as an administrator with "Post Messages" rights, then reconnect in SkedCast.

- Do I need my own Telegram bot, or does SkedCast provide one?
- You create your own bot through Telegram’s official @BotFather — this keeps the bot and its permissions entirely under your control, and means only channels you explicitly add it to can ever be posted to.
- Why does SkedCast ask me for a channel as well as the bot token?
- The token identifies the bot, not a destination — a single bot can be an administrator of several channels. SkedCast asks which channel each connection posts to, and every post on that connection goes there. To post to several channels, connect each one (the same bot can serve all of them); you never type a destination on a post.
- Can a client connect their own Telegram account without sharing a password?
- Yes. Send the account owner an invite link from SkedCast. They sign in to Telegram themselves and approve the connection, so their password never leaves their hands and you can start scheduling once it is connected.
- What happens to scheduled posts if the Telegram connection breaks?
- They cannot publish until the account is reconnected. SkedCast shows each connection’s health and offers a one-click reconnect; after reconnecting, retry any post that failed in the meantime.
- Can I connect more than one Telegram account?
- Yes. Connect each account separately; they all count toward your plan’s connected-account limit, and you can group them by client so each client’s posts stay apart.
