X (Twitter) API pricing calculator

This X API pricing calculator uses X's own current pricing: 1.5 cents per standard post and 20 cents per post that contains a URL — a real, official ~13.3x multiplier X's docs state with no explanation. Enter your posting volume and link ratio to see your real estimated monthly API cost.

Total posts you publish to X per day, across all accounts.

Share of posts with an outbound URL — X's own docs price these at $0.20 each vs $0.015 plain.

Usually 30, to match X's monthly billing cycle.

API calls that read posts (timelines, mentions, metrics) — billed separately at $0.005 each, capped at 3,000,000/month.

Monthly post cost

360 plain + 240 with a link

$53.40

(plain posts × $0.015) + (link posts × $0.20)

What the link surcharge alone costs

vs. if none of these posts had a link

$44.40

post cost − (total posts × $0.015)

Monthly Post-read cost

15,000 reads this cycle

$75.00

min(reads, 3,000,000) × $0.005

Total estimated X API cost this billing cycle

$128.40

If every one of these 600 posts were plain text with no link, the same volume would cost $9.00. If every one of them contained a link instead, it would cost $120.00 — a 13.3x multiplier between the two, per X's own pricing page. Per-post prices used: $0.015 standard, $0.20 with a link, $0.005 per read.

How to use the X API pricing calculator

  1. Enter your daily post volume. Total posts you publish to X per day, across every connected account.
  2. Set your link ratio. The share of those posts that contain an outbound URL — this is what drives most of the cost difference.
  3. Set your billing cycle length. Usually 30 days, to match a typical monthly X API billing cycle.
  4. Add your daily Post reads. API calls that read posts back (timelines, mentions, metrics), billed separately at half a cent each.
  5. Read the real cost breakdown. See the plain-post cost, the link surcharge alone, and the total — all computed from real, current X pricing.

Worked examples

20 posts/day, 40% with a link

Over a 30-day cycle: 600 total posts, 240 with a link. Plain cost is 360 posts at 1.5 cents each; link cost is 240 posts at 20 cents each — roughly six times more total post cost than if none of those posts had contained a link.

5 posts/day, 0% with a link

Over a 30-day cycle: 150 posts, all plain text, each billed at 1.5 cents — no link surcharge at all since none of them contain a URL.

X API pricing FAQ

Is the 20-cent-per-link-post price a real, current X price?
Yes — confirmed directly on X's own current pricing page (docs.x.com/x-api/getting-started/pricing) alongside the 1.5-cent standard-post price, both checked 2026-09-23. This is X's real official per-request pricing, not an internal estimate.
Why does a link make an X post so much more expensive to publish via API?
X's own pricing page does not explain the reasoning — it simply lists the two prices side by side. No official rationale (link-scanning cost, spam prevention, off-platform-traffic disincentive) is stated anywhere in X's documentation.
Does this calculator include X's older monthly subscription tiers like Basic or Pro?
No — X's current primary access model, confirmed on its own pricing page, is pay-per-use rather than flat monthly tiers. Historical tier names and prices could not be confirmed as still current and are not used here.
What counts as a "Post read" in this calculator?
Any API call that reads back post data — timelines, mentions, or metrics pulls — billed separately from post creation at half a cent per resource, with a documented cap of three million reads per monthly billing cycle.
Does this calculator send my numbers anywhere?
No — every calculation runs entirely in your browser using the input values you type; nothing is sent to a server.
Can I use this to estimate cost for multiple X accounts?
Yes — enter your combined daily posting and reading volume across every account you plan to publish from, since X bills per request regardless of which of your connected accounts made it.
