Telegram shows a post in full rather than hiding part of it behind a “more” link, so the limit that matters is its 4,096-character composer limit, and the preview flags any text past it. What are Telegram’s post limits?
A Telegram channel post holds 4,096 characters of text, or 1,024 as the caption of a photo, video or file. The limits come from Telegram’s Bot API, which is how scheduling tools post to channels; SkedCast’s column is what its composer accepts:

Does Telegram cut off long posts?
No. Telegram shows a channel post in full; there is no “more” link that hides the end of it, so the preview shows the whole text. The one exception is chosen by the author: an expandable quote, a block that Telegram shows collapsed until the reader taps it. Long posts still read better with the point in the first line, since the chat list and notifications show only the start.
How do links and formatting show on Telegram?
By default Telegram adds a preview of the first link in a text post, with the page’s title, description and image, below the text. Formatting such as bold, italic, links, quotes and spoilers is written in MarkdownV2 or HTML; the Telegram formatting guide shows each style and the characters that need escaping.
How do you use the Telegram post preview?
- Paste your Telegram caption. Type or paste your draft Telegram caption into the box; nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.
- Add an image URL (optional). Paste a public image URL to see it in the mockup frame, or leave it blank to preview the caption alone.
- Confirm Telegram is selected. This page opens with Telegram selected; switch platforms in the tabs above the preview to compare.
- Check the character limit. The preview flags any text past Telegram’s 4,096-character limit, which cannot be posted.
- Trim to fit. If the post runs over, shorten it or split it into a thread, keeping the key message in the first line.
What are the Telegram rules to know?
The limits SkedCast’s composer checks for Telegram before a post goes out, read from the same rules table the composer uses.

Good to know
- A Telegram document rides on its own — it is not grouped with photos or videos in one album.
- Telegram GIFs cannot be mixed with photos or videos in one media group (the Bot API has no grouped animation).
- Telegram has no native post scheduling for bots — SkedCast schedules and fires the post itself.
- Telegram does not support alt-text on images.
- Telegram does not support polls in this composer.

Telegram does not auto-collapse a channel post behind a "more" link the way Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn do — a text post displays in full up to the 4,096-character message limit (1,024 characters with a media caption). The only collapse is one the author chooses: an expandable quote, which Telegram shows collapsed until the reader taps it, not an automatic feed cutoff, so this tool shows Telegram captions in full. Telegram’s 4,096-character composer limit is the only ceiling that applies — there is no separate feed truncation point.
