Connect your Pinterest account to a social media scheduler (and fix connection problems)

Connect your Pinterest account to SkedCast, a social media scheduler, in a few steps. Pinterest’s API only authorizes Business accounts — a personal Pinterest account cannot connect. You’ll also need at least one board created before you can schedule a pin, since every pin is assigned to a board.

How to connect Pinterest

  1. 1In SkedCast, open Connected Accounts, choose Connect, then Pinterest — or send the account owner an invite link to connect it themselves.
  2. 2Sign in with your Pinterest Business account and approve the requested permissions.
  3. 3SkedCast pulls in your boards automatically — pick a default board or choose one per post later.

What can you publish to Pinterest once it is connected?

  • A caption of up to 800 characters; every post needs an image or video.
  • Images: up to 5 per post, JPG, PNG, up to 20 MB each.
  • Video: one per post, MP4, MOV, X-M4V, up to 2 GB each, up to 15 minutes long.
  • GIFs: one per post, GIF, up to 20 MB each.
  • Alt text on images, written in the composer.
  • Scheduling by SkedCast, which holds the post and publishes it at the time you set.

Common connection problems

The board picker is empty.
A pin must be assigned to a board, and the picker only lists boards that already exist on the connected account. Create at least one board on Pinterest, then refresh the connection in SkedCast.
Pins fail with an authentication error.
Pinterest access tokens expire (Pinterest has been moving accounts from long-lived tokens onto a 60-day expiry). Reconnect from Connections to refresh it.
Connecting fails immediately, before you even reach permissions.
This usually means the account is Personal, not Business — Pinterest’s API rejects personal accounts outright. Convert to a Business account in Pinterest’s own settings (it’s free), then try connecting again.

FAQ

Can I connect a personal Pinterest account?
No. Pinterest’s publishing API requires a Business account. You can convert a personal account to Business for free directly in Pinterest’s settings without losing your existing pins or followers.
Why does Pinterest need a board before I can schedule anything?
Every pin on Pinterest is created onto a board — there’s no way to publish a pin without one, on Pinterest itself or through SkedCast.
Can a client connect their own Pinterest account without sharing a password?
Yes. Send the account owner an invite link from SkedCast. They sign in to Pinterest themselves and approve the connection, so their password never leaves their hands and you can start scheduling once it is connected.
What happens to scheduled posts if the Pinterest connection breaks?
They cannot publish until the account is reconnected. SkedCast shows each connection’s health and offers a one-click reconnect; after reconnecting, retry any post that failed in the meantime.
Can I connect more than one Pinterest account?
Yes. Connect each account separately; they all count toward your plan’s connected-account limit, and you can group them by client so each client’s posts stay apart.
