A 400-character caption on Instagram
Instagram shows about the first 125 characters before "…more", so 275 of the 400 are hidden until someone taps. Put the hook in those first 125.
To keep line breaks in Instagram captions, type your text in paragraphs here and copy the output: the tool puts a line holding an invisible character between paragraphs, so Instagram cannot collapse the gap when you paste. It is a workaround, not an official feature, so check the post after it publishes. Instagram posts take up to 2,200 characters, shows about 125 before "…more", and allows up to 30 hashtags.
Separate paragraphs with a blank line, the way you normally would.
This inserts invisible zero-width spacer characters between paragraphs so a composer that collapses a plain blank line still keeps the break — it is a workaround for how Instagram currently handles pasted text, not an official feature, so paste this OUTPUT rather than typing straight into the composer, and test it before you rely on it for something important.
Instagram’s app often drops the empty line between paragraphs when you paste a caption, so a spaced-out caption arrives as one block. Instagram does not document this, and it changes from version to version. A line that holds an invisible character is not empty, so the app keeps it and your paragraphs stay apart.
| Field | Limit | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Caption | 2,200 characters | Spacer lines count as a few characters each |
| Bio | Short field | Type breaks with the return key in the app when pasting loses them |
| Comments | Shorter than a caption | Paste the spaced text the same way |

Count the finished caption with the character counter, and use the general line break generator for any other network.
The limits SkedCast’s composer checks for Instagram before a post goes out, read from the same rules table the composer uses.
| Text limit | 2,200 characters |
|---|---|
| How length is counted | As you see it: one emoji or accented letter counts as one character |
| Hashtags | Up to 30 per post; extras are flagged before publishing |
| @-mentions | Up to 20 per caption; extras are dropped |
| Where the caption is cut off in the feed | About 125 characters before "…more", so lead with the point |
| Text-only posts | Not allowed: every post needs an image or video |
| Links in the text | No link-preview card |
| First comment | Supported: SkedCast can post a first comment right after publishing |
| Feed crop | 4:5 in the feed preview |
| Images | up to 10 per post · JPEG · max 8 MB each · aspect ratio 4:5 to 1.91:1 |

That is 5 over the 30 SkedCast allows for Instagram, so the post is flagged before it publishes rather than going out with tags dropped.
SkedCast sends the caption to Instagram exactly as you write it, line breaks included, and counts every character against Instagram’s 2,200-character limit as you type. Check the preview before you schedule; if a break matters, keep the spacer version from this tool. See the Instagram scheduler for every option.
