Best day to post by industry

Which day of the week performs best is not the same across industries: Sprout Social’s 2026 analysis of roughly 2 billion engagements found retail, technology, education, healthcare and other industries peak on different days and times. This lookup shows the Instagram and LinkedIn windows for each industry that report actually breaks out, so you start from data close to your own sector rather than a single generic chart.

Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) score lowest across every industry Sprout measured. Source: Sprout Social, 2026 Best Times to Post analysis (~2 billion engagements across ~307,000 profiles, Nov 27 2025-Feb 27 2026). sproutsocial.com/insights/best-times-to-post-on-social-media. Only Instagram and LinkedIn are shown per industry because those are the two platform pages in that report that publish a named industry breakdown — the others do not, so no figure is invented for them.

How to use the industry breakdown

  1. Find your closest industry. Match your business to the nearest listed industry; a close match is more useful than no data at all.
  2. Note the platform it applies to. Each window is specific to Instagram or LinkedIn, since those are the two platform pages this source breaks out by industry.
  3. Treat it as a starting window. Schedule a batch of posts inside the suggested window rather than assuming the exact hour is precisely optimal.
  4. Track your own results. Compare engagement across a few weeks of posts in and outside the window using the engagement rate calculator.
  5. Adjust for your actual audience. If your own data disagrees with the industry figure after a few weeks, follow your own data instead.

Worked examples

A retail brand on Instagram

Sprout Social’s data puts retail’s Instagram peak at Monday through Friday, 12 to 3pm — the lunch-break browsing window — which is a reasonable first slot to test for a retail account with no historical data of its own yet.

A B2B software company on LinkedIn

Technology and software brands peak on LinkedIn Tuesday to Wednesday, 10am to 4pm, per the same 2026 analysis — aligned with when a B2B audience is actually at a desk reading industry content rather than scrolling casually.

Best posting days by industry: FAQ

Does this cover every industry?
No, it covers the industries Sprout Social’s report names explicitly on its Instagram and LinkedIn pages. If your industry is not listed, the closest match or the general best-time-to-post cheat sheet is the next best starting point.
Why only Instagram and LinkedIn?
Those are the two platform pages in the source report that publish a named industry-by-industry breakdown; the other platform pages in the same report do not, so no figure is invented for them here.
Is Friday afternoon really bad for every industry?
No single day is universally bad; the data shows weekends scoring lowest across every industry measured, while weekday performance varies by sector, so check the specific row rather than assuming a rule applies everywhere.
How was this data collected?
Sprout Social analyzed roughly 2 billion engagements across about 307,000 profiles between late November 2025 and late February 2026, recorded in each profile’s own local time.
Should restaurants use the food and beverage row?
Yes, that is the closest published category; the data shows an 11am to 1pm weekday peak, matching lunchtime meal-planning behavior on Instagram.
Can I combine this with SkedCast’s own best-times feature?
Yes. Use this page as a starting point before you have your own history, then switch to your account’s own per-account best-times data once you have a few weeks of posts.
