Social media KPI dashboard template

This KPI dashboard template is a real dictionary of 15 social media metrics across five categories — growth, engagement, content, traffic and efficiency — each with a plain-language definition, where the number comes from, and how often to check it. Tick the categories you track, download the CSV, and fill in your own Target and Actual columns to turn it into a real dashboard.

How to build a social media KPI dashboard

  1. Pick your KPI categories. Tick the categories relevant to your goals — a brand-awareness focus might skip Traffic; a lead-gen focus might skip Content.
  2. Review the definitions. Read each KPI’s definition and data source in the preview so everyone on the team measures it the same way.
  3. Download the CSV. Download the filtered list into Excel, Google Sheets or your dashboard tool of choice.
  4. Set a target for each KPI. Fill in the blank Target column with a realistic goal for each metric, based on your account’s own history.
  5. Track Actual against Target on a cadence. Update the Actual column on the Frequency the row suggests — weekly for fast-moving metrics, monthly for slower ones.

Ticking all five categories downloads the complete dictionary — useful as a reference even before you decide which subset to actively track.

KPI dashboard template FAQ

What KPIs should a social media dashboard track?
It depends on your goals, but most teams cover at least one growth metric, one engagement metric and one metric tied to a business outcome such as traffic or conversions — this dictionary groups 15 real candidates into five categories to choose from.
Does this dashboard pull live numbers from my accounts?
No — it generates the KPI structure only: the name, definition, data source and frequency for each metric. The Target and Actual columns are intentionally blank for you to fill in.
How often should I update a KPI dashboard?
It varies by metric — fast-moving metrics like reach or engagement rate are commonly checked weekly, while slower ones like conversions or cost per post are commonly checked monthly; each row states a suggested frequency.
What is the difference between reach and impressions?
Reach counts unique accounts that saw your post at least once; impressions count total displays, including repeat views from the same account.
Where do I find the data for each KPI?
Each row names its data source — mostly each platform’s own analytics, plus UTM-tagged link analytics, web analytics or your own budget/time-tracking log for a few of the traffic and efficiency metrics.
Can I add my own KPIs to the dashboard?
Yes — the download is a plain CSV, so you can add, remove or rename rows in your spreadsheet after downloading.
