What "Instagram will auto-post when possible" means

Instagram’s own app lets a professional account schedule a post, Reel or carousel directly, with no third-party tool involved. "Will auto-post when possible" is the status Instagram shows when that native scheduling attempt did not complete at the scheduled time — most often because the connection was too weak or unstable to finish the upload, or the app was killed before it could run in the background.

Instagram holds the post and retries rather than discarding it, which is why the message reads as a delay, not a failure — but it can sit like that indefinitely if the underlying condition (a stable connection, the app able to run) never recurs.

Since the upload runs through your phone and the Instagram app, the fix is on that side, not a server somewhere:

Instagram has no native scheduling API for third-party apps at all — there is no "publish_at" field to hand it. So every scheduling tool, SkedCast included, holds the post on its own server and calls the Instagram Graph API to publish it at the right time, from a data center connection, not your phone.

That means a post SkedCast scheduled cannot show "will auto-post when possible" — that message is specific to Instagram’s own native scheduler. If a SkedCast-scheduled Instagram post has not gone out, check its status on the Calendar or Failed list instead; the reason will be a real API response, not a connectivity retry.

Every scheduled post lives on the Calendar (/calendar in the console) — a month/week grid you can filter by client, platform and status. Click a scheduled post there to open its detail sheet and see its exact status, target account and any error.

A post that failed validation before it was even queued shows up under Drafts (/posts/drafts) instead of the calendar, and a post that failed to publish after being queued shows up under Failed (/posts/failed) with the reason.
