Social media editorial calendar template

This editorial calendar template is the same content-calendar CSV generator as SkedCast’s general content calendar template, framed around planning by CONTENT PILLAR rather than just by date: list your recurring themes, and the generator rotates them across every posting slot so a plan reads as a mix of themes over the month, not a wall of identical dates.

Posting days

Local wall-clock time for every slot. Adjust individual rows in your spreadsheet.

Platforms

Optional. Written into the Account column of every row.

Separate with commas. The pillars rotate across your posting days so consecutive posts cover different themes.

Your calendar preview

Choose a month to build your calendar.

The file also has empty Caption, Media URL, First comment and Hashtags columns, plus a Status column starting at “Idea”, ready to fill in.

How to build an editorial calendar by content pillar

  1. Define your content pillars first. Write down 4-6 recurring themes your content falls into — for example educational, thought leadership, product, behind the scenes, social proof and seasonal.
  2. Pick your posting days and time. Choose the weekdays and time you publish; the pillar rotation is layered on top of this rhythm.
  3. Tick your platforms. Select every platform this editorial plan covers — each platform gets its own copy of the rotation.
  4. Check the rotation in the preview. The live preview shows which pillar lands on which date, so you can confirm consecutive posts do not repeat the same theme.
  5. Download and write to theme. Download the CSV and write each caption to match its row’s pillar, keeping the month’s content genuinely varied.

Worked examples

Six pillars, one month

With 6 pillars rotating across 12 posting slots in a month, each pillar appears about twice — enough repetition to build a recognizable content mix without any one theme dominating.

The same rotation across platforms

Ticking three platforms for the same month multiplies every planned slot by three, but keeps the pillar assigned to a given date identical across all three, so a brand’s themes stay consistent everywhere.

Editorial calendar template FAQ

What is the difference between an editorial calendar and a posting schedule?
A posting schedule defines when you post; an editorial calendar defines when AND what theme you post about, so the content stays varied and intentional rather than reactive.
How many content pillars should I use?
Most teams use somewhere around four to six recurring pillars — few enough to stay consistent, many enough that the feed does not feel repetitive.
Does the pillar order matter?
Yes — pillars rotate across posting slots in the order you list them, so putting your strongest or most time-sensitive pillar first affects when it lands in the month.
Can I plan more than one month at once?
Generate one CSV per month and combine them in your spreadsheet — the generator plans one calendar month at a time.
Is this the same generator as the plain content calendar template?
Yes — it is the identical calendar generator; this page pre-fills a broader pillar set and frames the workflow around planning by theme first.
Can I import the finished editorial calendar into SkedCast?
Yes — once the Caption and Media URL columns are filled in, SkedCast’s bulk import accepts the same CSV shape and validates every row before scheduling.
