How to post on Instagram from a computer

Instagram’s native app doesn’t let you upload a new post from a desktop browser at all — Instagram.com from a computer is read-only for posting. Getting content onto Instagram from a computer means either using Meta Business Suite or a tool like SkedCast that publishes through Instagram’s official API.

Key takeaways

  • Instagram's real caption limit is 2,200 characters.
  • Instagram has no native scheduling of its own — SkedCast’s own engine holds and fires the post.
  • The manual, native way to post is below, alongside exactly what SkedCast automates on top of it.

How to post on Instagram from a computer, manually

The native, no-scheduler way to post on Instagram, step by step:

  • Open Meta Business Suite (Instagram.com itself does not support uploading a new post from desktop) and select your Professional Instagram account.
  • Click Create post, add your photo, video, or carousel, and write the caption.
  • Choose Feed, Reel, or Story, and publish immediately or use Meta Business Suite’s own scheduling option.
  • Note: your account must be a Professional (Business or Creator) account — a Personal account can’t use Meta Business Suite for this at all.

How to schedule it automatically with SkedCast

What SkedCast adds on top of the manual flow above:

  • SkedCast connects the same way — a Professional Instagram account, no linked Facebook Page required — and publishes feed posts, carousels, and Reels automatically at a time you set, straight from your computer.
  • Instagram’s publishing API has no scheduled-publish field, so SkedCast holds the post in its own queue and publishes it at the time you set.
  • Bulk-upload a folder of media from your computer and turn it into a full scheduled run in one pass, instead of uploading each post separately.
  • Media and caption checks catch problems (wrong aspect ratio, missing media, an over-length caption) before anything reaches Instagram.

FAQ

Can I post to Instagram directly from a computer without any other tool?
Not through Instagram.com itself — the website doesn’t support uploading a new post from a desktop browser. Meta Business Suite or a third-party publishing tool like SkedCast are the two real ways to post to Instagram from a computer.
Do I need a linked Facebook Page to post to Instagram from a computer?
No — the current Instagram-Login connection (used by both Meta Business Suite and SkedCast) authenticates directly with your Instagram Professional account and does not require a linked Facebook Page.
