Free Instagram post scheduler: auto-publish Reels, carousels and Stories

A free Instagram post scheduler is a tool that publishes your Instagram posts at a time you choose, at no cost. The ones worth using publish automatically through Instagram’s official API: you upload the post, pick a time, and it goes live without you opening the app. Others only send a reminder to post by hand, which is planning, not scheduling.

There are three free routes: Instagram’s own app, Meta Business Suite, and a scheduler with a permanent free plan, such as SkedCast. They differ in what they publish, how many accounts they cover and whether they reach other networks.

Instagram’s app lets a public account schedule photos, carousels and Reels: up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead, from the post’s advanced options (Instagram Help Center, 2026). Product tags, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers cannot be scheduled there, and neither can Stories.

Meta Business Suite is free on desktop and mobile and schedules posts, Reels and Stories to a Facebook Page and an Instagram account together. It needs a business portfolio and full control or content permission on the account, and an Instagram post there takes up to ten photos (Meta Business Help Center, 2026). Both stay inside Meta’s apps: neither reaches TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn or the other networks you may post to.

A Reel is a vertical video that publishes to the Reels tab. A Story is a photo or video that lasts 24 hours; Instagram’s API publishes Stories without a caption or a location. A feed post, carousel or Reel can also carry a first comment, posted under the caption at publish time.

Each format is checked against Instagram’s own rules before it is scheduled, so a file Instagram would refuse is caught when you schedule it, not at publish time.

Not with SkedCast. What Instagram does require is a Business or Creator account: Instagram does not let any app publish to a personal account. Meta Business Suite works the other way round: it needs a business portfolio holding the account.
