Cross-promotion on social media, explained

Cross-promotion on social media is using one account or platform to promote another — for example, an Instagram post telling followers to subscribe on YouTube. It moves an audience between channels, which is different from cross-posting: publishing the same content to multiple channels at the same time rather than sending people from one to another.

Cross-promotion on social media vs. cross-posting#

The two are easy to conflate because both involve more than one platform, but they solve different problems: cross-posting saves time producing content, cross-promotion grows a specific channel.

FAQ

Can a single post do both cross-posting and cross-promotion?
Yes — a post fanned out to several platforms (cross-posting) can also include a call-to-action pointing followers toward a specific other channel (cross-promotion); they aren't mutually exclusive.
