What does cross-posting mean?

Cross-posting is publishing the same (or a lightly adapted) piece of content to multiple accounts or platforms at the same time, instead of manually rebuilding and re-uploading it separately for each one. It's usually done through a single compose-once action that fans the post out to every selected destination.

What is cross-posting, and how does it work?#

Cross-posting is not the same as cross-promotion — cross-posting duplicates one post across channels, while cross-promotion uses one channel to send an audience toward another.

The cross-posting meaning stays the same across social media platforms — duplicate content pushed to multiple destinations at once — even though what counts as an acceptable duplicate (identical caption vs. a platform-adapted variant) varies by tool.

FAQ

Does cross-posting mean every platform gets an identical post?
Not necessarily — a good cross-posting tool adapts each destination's variant to that platform's own format and limits (caption length, media count) while keeping the same core content.
What does cross-posted (or 'cross posting') mean on Facebook?
On Facebook, a video or post labeled as cross-posted was also published to another linked Page — cross-posting on Facebook generally requires the linked Pages to be connected first, in Meta Business Suite or a third-party tool like SkedCast, before either can share the other's content this way.
